💊 How Period Delay Tablets Work
We provide treatment with Norethisterone.
- A synthetic version of the hormone progesterone
- Works by keeping hormone levels raised, preventing the womb lining from shedding
- This effectively delays your period until you stop taking the tablets
⏳ How long can you delay your period?
- Periods can be delayed for up to 27 days
- Your period will usually return within 2–3 days after stopping treatment

🧾 Who is this suitable for?
This service is suitable for:
- Women aged 16 and over
- Those looking to delay their period for short-term reasons (e.g. travel, events)
- Women who are not currently pregnant
🚫 Who may not be suitable?
This treatment may not be suitable if you:
- Have a history of blood clots (DVT/PE)
- Have certain medical conditions or take specific medications
- Are already using certain types of hormonal contraception
Our pharmacist will carry out a confidential consultation to ensure this treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
💊 How to take the tablets
- Take one 5mg tablet, three times a day
- Start 3 days before your period is due
- Continue for the duration you wish to delay your period (up to 27 days)
👉 If started too late (less than 3 days before), it may not work effectively.
⚠️ Important Information
- Does NOT act as contraception — you can still become pregnant
- Should be used occasionally, not regularly
- If your period has already started, this treatment will not stop it
⚠️ Possible Side Effects
Some people may experience:
- Nausea
- Breast tenderness
- Headaches
- Mood changes
- Irregular bleeding or spotting
These are usually mild and temporary. Our pharmacist will explain what to expect and when to seek advice.
