Chickenpox Vaccination
Chickenpox Vaccination Service Now Available at New Milton Pharmacy
Chickenpox is a common and highly contagious infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. While most people recover without complications, chickenpox can cause serious problems in certain individuals, such as pregnant women, newborn babies, and those with weakened immune systems. Protect yourself and your loved ones with thechickenpox vaccine, now available at New Milton Pharmacy as a private service.
👨👩👧👦 Who is the vaccine suitable for?
Our chickenpox vaccination service is suitable for:
- Children and adults aged 12 months and older
- Individuals who have not previously had chickenpox
- those who are in close contact with individuals at high risk of severe varicella infection eg. continuing contacts with immunocompromised patients
The vaccine is not suitable for those who:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a weakened immune system
- have previously had a full course of 2 varicella vaccines
- have active chickenpox infection
Suitability will be confirmed during a short consultation with our pharmacist before the vaccine is administered.

💉 How does the vaccine work?
The chickenpox vaccine contains a small, weakened version of the virus that stimulates the immune system to build protection. It significantly reduces your risk of catching chickenpox, and if you do get it, the illness is likely to be much milder.
- The course includes 2 doses, given 4 to 8 weeks apart.
- Administered via injection, usually in the upper arm or thigh (for young children).
- Once the course is complete, no booster is needed.
