RSV Vaccination Service Now Available at New Milton Pharmacy

🦠 What is RSV?

RSV is a widespread respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms such as:

  • Runny nose, sneezing, or nasal congestion
  • Cough and sore throat
  • Fever
  • Fatigue or wheezing (in more serious cases)

While most people recover within a week or two, RSV can cause serious complications, particularly in:

  • Babies under 6 months old, who are at risk of bronchiolitis and breathing difficulties
  • Adults aged 75 and above, for whom RSV may lead to hospitalisation or even be life-threatening
  • People with weakened immune systems

👥 Who can receive the RSV vaccine?

You may be suitable for the RSV vaccine if you are:

  • Aged 60 years or older

This vaccine is not suitable if you:

  • Are under 60
  • Have had a serious allergic reaction to a vaccine in the past
  • are suffering from acute severe febrile illness (the presence of a minor infection is not a contraindication for immunisation);

A brief consultation with our pharmacist will be conducted beforehand to ensure the vaccine is appropriate for you.

💉 About the RSV Vaccine

  • We use licensed RSV vaccines such as Arexvy® or Abrysvo®, depending on your age and clinical needs
  • Only a single dose is required to provide protection
  • The injection is given in the upper arm
  • Side effects are typically mild and may include soreness at the injection site, fatigue, or fever
