Pneumonia is an infection that causes inflammation in one or both lungs. It can make breathing difficult, and in severe cases, require hospital treatment. The infection may be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, with Streptococcus pneumoniae being the most common culprit.

💉 About the Pneumonia Vaccine

There are different types of pneumonia vaccines used privately, depending on your age and health status. All are given as a single injection into the upper arm, and offer long-lasting protection — in many cases, a one-off dose is all that’s needed.

The vaccine helps your immune system create antibodies that can fight off the bacteria responsible for causing pneumonia and related illnesses like:

• Meningitis

• Septicaemia

🚫 Who shouldn’t have the vaccine?

You may not be suitable for the pneumonia vaccine if:

• You are hypersensitive or allergic to any components (including trace residuals) of the vaccines
• You have a fever or high temperature at the time of your appointment
• You’ve had a severe allergic reaction to a previous vaccine

Our pharmacist will carry out a short medical screening before your appointment to ensure it is safe and appropriate for you.
